The Buddha hesitates to teach the Dhamma, reflecting that humanity, deeply mired in desire and attachment, will find conditional origination and Nibbāna too profound to comprehend. Realizing the world will perish without these teachings, Brahmā Sahampati descends from the heavens. He formally requests the Buddha to teach, pointing out that some individuals have little dust in their eyes and will understand. The Buddha compassionately agrees.
