Overwhelmed by the Buddha’s vast array of miracles, Uruvelā Kassapa finally concedes that he is not fully liberated and submits to the Buddha. He and his five hundred followers cast their ritual ascetic hair and fire apparatus into the river and receive ordination. Prompted by this sudden mass conversion, Kassapa’s two brothers, Nadī and Gayā Kassapa, along with their remaining five hundred followers, quickly follow suit and join the Sangha.
