05 Ajahn Sao

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Ajahn Sao from The Life of Ajahn Mun together with further information.

Ajahn Sao, Ajahn Mun’s teacher, was serene and taciturn, once levitating in concentration and testing it by retrieving an object from his roof. He renounced a past vow to become a Paccekabuddha, then attained Nibbāna. Ajahn Mun similarly abandoned a ancient Buddha-vow. Despite differing temperaments—Sao calm, Mun adventurous—they shared deep mutual respect. Ajahn Mun’s mercurial mind often shot out of his body, requiring years of experimentation to master.
