Ajahn Mun strictly observed the thirteen dhutanga practices: daily almsround, eating only almsfood, one meal daily, eating from the bowl, rag-robes, forest dwelling, tree-root dwelling, cemetery dwelling, and wearing only three robes. He explained how each counters defilements—greed for food, pride, and fear—and shows the forest as an ideal battlefield, animals feeling safe near monks, and cemeteries teaching contemplation of death. He urged his disciples to adopt these practices.
