01 Impermanence
high-definition creative commons posters depicting Impermanence from Basic Buddhist Concepts, together with further information.
Impermanence (anicca) reveals that all composed things (saṅkhāra) inevitably decompose. This process encompasses negative change, positive becoming, and the general aspect of conditionality. While memory and instinct serve biological functions, they psychologically construct a false I (ahaṁkāra) by seeking permanence in the ephemeral. Recognizing anicca through dependent origination (paṭicca-samuppāda) dissolves this delusion. Understanding that existence is naturally impermanent finally resolves conflict (dukkha).
