05 Rebirth
high-definition creative commons posters depicting Rebirth from Basic Buddhist Concepts, together with further information.
Karma corresponds to four planes of existence (bhūmi). Unskilful actions lead to sub-human spheres (apāya), while skilful ones reach fortunate realms (kāma loka) or mental absorptions (jhāna). Rebirth is not soul transmigration but a reaction to volitional activity. The “I” is a delusion seeking continuity. True rebirth occurs every moment by letting go of the past, eventually reaching formless spheres (arūpaloka) where the cycle of ego and conflict finally ceases.
