Ignorance (avijjā) drives the desire for becoming and purposeful formations (saṅkhāra) through dependent origination (paṭicca-samuppāda). Enlightenment reveals the non-self (anatta), allowing one to live as a Tathāgata, experiencing reality’s “thus-ness” and ultimate reality without conflict. When ignorance is recognized as ignorance, the search for goals ends. This insight stops the reactive mind from creating artificial compositions, effectively dissolving the illusory “searcher” and ending all purposeful reactions.
