Princess Sadmarkar (7th Century) played a pivotal role in the expansion of the Tibetan Empire through strategic diplomacy. Sent by her brother, Songsten Gampo, to marry the King of Zhangzhung, she found herself isolated in a loveless political alliance. According to legend, she sent a cryptic message hidden in a song and a gift of silk to her brother, signaling the King of Zhangzhung’s betrayal. This intelligence allowed Songsten Gampo to conquer Zhangzhung, unifying the Tibetan plateau.
