The Lotus-Born Guru Rinpoche (8th Century) is revered as the second Buddha in Tibet. A powerful tantric mahāsiddha from Oḍḍiyana, he was invited by King Trisong Detsen to subdue the demonic forces obstructing the construction of Samye Monastery. Through his mastery of ritual and meditation, he converted local deities into protectors of the Dharma. He hid Terma (hidden treasures) across the landscape to be discovered by future masters, ensuring the vitality of the Nyingma lineage.
