The arrival of the Bengali master Atiśa (982–1054) in 1042 sparked the Second Diffusion of Buddhism in Tibet. He revitalized the Dharma by emphasizing ethical discipline and the integration of Sūtra and Tantra. His seminal work, A Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, introduced the Lamrim (Graduated Path) framework. This systematic approach corrected many tantric abuses of the era and laid the foundational structure for the Kadam, and later, the Gelug schools.
