13. Machig Labdron (Chöd Master)

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Machig Labdron (Chöd Master) together with further information.

Machig Labdron (1055–1149) was a 11th-century female master who developed the unique practice of Chöd (Cutting Through). Combining Prajñāpāramitā philosophy with tantric methods, her practice involves offering one’s own body as a feast to gods and demons to sever the root of ego-clinging. Remarkably, Chöd is one of the few lineages that originated in Tibet and was subsequently exported back to India. She remains an iconic symbol of fearless compassion and female wisdom.
