Rechungpa (1083–1161) was one of Milarepa’s two moon-like disciples, representing the yogic, non-monastic side of the Kagyu lineage. Unlike Gampopa, Rechungpa traveled to India several times, bringing back esoteric teachings that Milarepa himself had not mastered. His pride often led to clashes with his teacher, providing classic lessons on the student-teacher relationship. Rechungpa’s lineage emphasizes the hidden, tantric aspects of the oral transmission, preserving the raw, wild spirit of the mahāsiddhas.
