The Lives of Inspiring Chinese Nuns

Watercolour Style

high-definition creative commons posters from The Lives of Inspiring Chinese Nuns together with further information.

Illustrations based on Kathryn Ann Tsai’s Lives of the Nuns, which is a translation of Pi-chiu-ni chuan (比丘尼傳) which was compiled by Shih Pao-ch’ang. The selection focuses on those who passed on the lineage, some of the discussions surrounding its validity, and the particular sanctity of some of the nuns. It also gives a good idea of 4th and 5th century China, and the society within which these nuns lived and fulfilled their aspirations.
