Shi Zhimeng (Xi'an)

high-definition creative commons posters depicting The Story about Shi Zhimeng (Xi'an) together with further information.

Shi Zhimeng led a large party of fifteen monks from Chang'an to India in search of Mahāyāna scriptures. His travels took him to the birthplace of the Buddha and the capital of King Aśoka. Although many of his companions perished or turned back due to the grueling conditions, Zhimeng reached India and returned with Sanskrit copies of the Nirvāna sūtra and the Mahāsāṁghika-vinaya. He spent his final years in Chengdu translating these precious texts.
