In the time of Buddha Padumuttara, she aspired to be foremost in Vinaya learning. She was later born as Princess Bhikkhunī, the third daughter of King Kikī, and lived a chaste life. In her final life as a rich man’s daughter in Sāvatthī, a series of catastrophes struck: her husband died of a snakebite, her infant was carried off by a hawk, her elder son drowned, and her parents’ house collapsed, killing her entire family. Grief-stricken and naked, she wandered madly until the Buddha calmed her, teaching about the endless tears shed in Saṁsāra. She attained Stream-entry and became a nun. Later, while washing her feet and observing the flow of water, she gained deep insight into impermanence and, with the Buddha’s guidance, became an Arahat, earning her title as foremost in Vinaya knowledge.
