02 Meṇḍaka, the Householder

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Meṇḍaka, the Householder based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.

In a past life, Meṇḍaka built a magnificent golden-adorned portico with goat statues for Buddha Vipassī. Later, during a severe famine in Bārāṇasī, his family selflessly offered their final meal to a Paccekabuddha, magically refilling their grain stores. Reborn during Gautama Buddha's era, his immense merit manifested as 14 acres of solid-gold goat statues that miraculously produced endless resources, leading him and his household to stream-entry and spiritual realization.
