In Benares, gardener Sañjaya discovered a timid Wind-Deer (Vātamiga) in the king’s gardens. Seeking to capture it, Sañjaya smeared grass with honey, effectively exploiting the creature’s "lust of taste". After gaining its confidence, he lured the deer directly into the palace. King Brahmadatta observed the trapped animal, teaching that nothing in the world is viler than sensory craving, which can so easily enslave even the most wild, fearful living beings.
