The Bodhisatta, born as a black bull named Ayyikā Kāḷaka, was raised lovingly by a poor woman. To ease her poverty, he agreed to pull five hundred wagons across a rough ford for one thousand coins. When the merchant underpaid him, the bull blocked the path until he received the full amount. Exhausted, he brought the wealth to his "mother," who cared for him before they both eventually passed away.
