Mahālohita and his brother Cullalohita are hardworking oxen who eat only sorry straw. Cullalohita envies Muṇika, a pig being fattened on rice for a daughter’s wedding feast. Mahālohita warns that the pig eats food of death. When guests arrive, Muṇika is slaughtered and cooked into curry. The brothers finally realize their simple grass and chaff are superior because such fare ensures a long, harm-free, and secure life for them both.
