48 The Rain of Ruin

high-definition creative commons posters depicting The Rain of Ruin from the Pāḷi Jātaka stories together with further information.

Ignoring the Bodhisatta’s warning, a Brahmin uses the Vedabbha charm to rain treasure for his captors. This sudden wealth triggers a cycle of carnage. A second robber band kills the Brahmin and slaughters the first group. Deadly internal strife leaves only two survivors, who kill each other through sword and poison. The Bodhisatta finds the bodies and concludes that seeking atthaṁ through misguided means leads to total destruction for all.
