Monkey and Pigsy save village children by posing as sacrifices and fighting a river monster. Seeking revenge and Tripitaka’s flesh to live forever, the monster freezes the river. Despite warnings, Tripitaka insists on crossing the frozen ice. The ice cracks, and the monster captures him, taking him to his underwater palace. Escaping safely, the disciples return to their host’s farm and prepare to rescue their master once and for all.

Tripitaka’s capture symbolises the danger of spiritual impatience and attachment to worldly goals. Driven by anxiety to reach the Buddha and equating his holy quest with traders’ search for profit, he ignores warnings to wait. Stepping onto the frozen river—a metaphor for the deceptive illusions of Saṁsāra—his sudden plunge teaches that hasty shortcuts on the spiritual path only lead to karmic entrapment.
