After waking up, Sutamatī searches for Maṇimēkhalai and recounts her past and their meeting with a kind monk. Meanwhile, Maṇimēkhalai wanders the island and reflects on her situation. Back in Puhār, the grieving mother prays to the local guardian goddess to save her son, receiving an explanation of karma and rebirth. The goddess then places Maṇimēkhalai’s companion under a spell to facilitate Maṇimēkhalai’s magical journey.
