Marpa, inspired by Vajrayoginī, travels to India seeking Nāropa. He receives Hevajra, Guhyasamāja, and other tantras from Nāropa, Jñānagarbha, and the mahāsiddha Kukkuripa on an island in a poison lake. He then meets Maitrīpa, who grants him full abhiṣekas and mahāmudrā instructions. Marpa also receives the Catuhpīṭha from a ḍākinī. After twelve years in India and Nepal, he returns to Tibet, having become a treasury of oral instruction
