Marpa, urged by a ḍākinī’s coded verse and Milarepa’s dream, resolves to return to India despite his disciples’ pleas. He travels alone, meeting Atiśa on the way. In India, he learns Nāropa has entered the action. Guided by Maitrīpa, Kukkuripa, and others, Marpa searches for eight months through visions and hardships. Finally he meets Nāropa at Phullahari, receives the hearing lineage and Cakrasaṁvara abhiṣekas, survives obstacles, and is established as Nāropa’s regent.
