Marpa’s disciples request a prophecy about the Kagyu teachings. He asks them to await dreams. Milarepa dreams of a great snow mountain with four pillars—a lion, tigress, garuḍa, and vulture. Marpa interprets this as the future spread of the teachings through his four chief disciples: Tsurtön, Ngoktön, Metön, and Milarepa. The vulture’s chick and the flock of birds signify Milarepa’s unique disciple and the flourishing of the Kagyu lineage.
