Following the death of Milarepa’s father, his greedy paternal uncle and aunt seized his family’s immense wealth instead of preserving it. They forced Milarepa, his mother, and sister into brutal, dog-like servitude. When Milarepa turned fifteen, his mother formally demanded their inheritance back. The relatives aggressively denied the claim, beat them, and evicted them. Consequently, Milarepa was sent to study Nyingmapa traditions while his family endured extreme poverty.
