08 Departure

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Departure from The Life of Milarepa together with further information.

Troubled by a distressing dream revealing his home in ruins and his elderly mother dead, Milarepa breaks his strict retreat to ask Lama Marpa for permission to return to his homeland. Observing auspicious signs, Marpa consents and bestows the complete tantric initiations and secret oral instructions. After tearful farewells, prayers, and ritual feasts with Marpa and Dakmema, Milarepa departs to briefly visit his family before entering a solitary mountain retreat.
