The text recounts that early divine grammars like Sarvajñāna's perished, while Indra composed the Indravyākaraṇa. When the sage Bṛhaspati mastered Indra's work and grew proud, Indra humbled him by demonstrating that total grammatical science resembles a vast ocean, while Bṛhaspati's complete knowledge equals merely a single drop extracted with a blade of grass.
