In this Jātaka tale, the Bodhisatta, named Sammājīva, diligently supports his widowed mother. After she dies from a poisonous snakebite, Sakka, disguised as a brahman, offers a healing mantra in exchange for a human heart. Sammājīva selflessly cuts out his own heart to revive her and dies. Devastated, his mother performs a powerful act of truth, prompting Sakka to restore her beloved son’s life. Both are eventually reborn in heaven.
