05 King Sumbhamitta

high-definition creative commons posters depicting King Sumbhamitta from Fifty Lannā Jātaka Stories together with further information.

Fleeing his brother Asumbhamitta’s rebellion to avoid bloodshed, King Sumbhamitta of Campā exiled himself to the forest with Queen Kesinī and their two young sons. While crossing a deep river, the sons were lost and rescued by fishermen, while Kesinī was separated and taken by a boatman. Sumbhamitta subsequently became king of Takkasilā, where he was joyfully reunited with his entire family, while his unrighteous brother suffered in Niraya hell.
