Seeking the glorious Dhamma, virtuous King Surūpa offers his wealth to find a teacher. To test his devotion, Sakka, king of devas, appears as a terrifying yakkha demanding flesh. The king sacrifices his beloved wife, young son, and finally his own body to feed the monster in exchange for sacred verses. Moved by this supreme sacrifice, Sakka reveals his true identity, restores the family, and prophesies the king’s future Buddhahood.
