In the past, King Mahāratha and Queen Siriratanagabbhā of Meghavatī were separated by a great flood. The pregnant queen floated to Mount Caṇḍa, giving birth to the Bodhisatta, Ratanapajjota. At age five, the young boy sacrificed his own heart’s flesh to the yakkha Bāḷhahaka to save his mother. He was miraculously healed by Sakka. Later, Ratanapajjota ruled, renounced the world, and was reborn in the Brahmaloka, identified as the future Buddha.
