When Queen Sumekhalā dies from a poisonous snakebite in the forest, her son, Prince Mahāpaduma, sacrifices his own heart to save her. Sakka, disguised as a Brahman, uses ambrosia to revive the queen, but the devoted prince collapses and dies. Overcome with sorrow, Queen Sumekhalā performs a resolution of truth, prompting Sakka to resurrect Mahāpaduma. Together, they live righteously in the forest hermitage until achieving rebirth in a heavenly realm.
