The Bodhisatta, born poor, clears an overgrown shrine and offers lamp-worship, resolving to become a Buddha. Reborn as Brahmakumāra, son of King Brahmadatta, he is consecrated by one hundred kings. The text praises the fruits of clearing shrines and offering lamps—long life, wisdom, wealth, and eventual Nibbāna. The Buddha identifies himself as Brahmakumāra.
