A crow captures a giant worm, who poses four riddles. Unable to answer, the crow carries him to the Buddha, who answers correctly: Nibbāna is greatest, mind is fastest, water is sharpest, and the Buddha is strongest. The worm is spared. The Buddha then reveals a past life as the ascetic Sūcika, who similarly answered riddles and saved a moth from an eagle.
