Buddhenī, a wealthy orphan in Pāṭaliputra, rejected marriage to devote her life and fortune to the Buddhasāsana. Gifted a magical flying horse, she frequently traveled to worship at the Great Bodhi Tree. After narrowly escaping a royal kidnapping attempt with her horse’s aid, she continued her charitable works and strict adherence to the five precepts. Upon death, she was reborn in the devaloka.
