Ch’iu Ch’ang-ch’un hauls a boulder uphill and rolls it down for three years to dissolve his illusions, then warns the miser Wang Yün, who answers with horse dung. Ch’iu secretly tells the kind servant Ch’un-Hua to hide at the Kuan-Yin shrine when the stone lions’ eyes redden. An earthquake flood destroys the Wang mansion; she survives. At Dragon Gate gorge, Ch’iu prays and three days of rain save the crops.
