Suppiyā cuts flesh from her thigh for a sick monk. After healing her the Buddha bans human flesh and unexamined meat. He also prohibits eating elephant, horse, dog, snake, and wild animal meats. Later, General Sīha converts and serves meat to the sangha, prompting Jain criticism. The Buddha then bans meat known, seen, or suspected to be killed for monks, allowing only three-fold pure meat.
