Milarepa (1040–1123) is perhaps Tibet’s most beloved saint. After using black magic to avenge his family, he sought out Marpa to purify his karma. Following years of grueling labor and solitary meditation in high mountain caves, he achieved enlightenment in a single lifetime. Dressed only in a thin cotton robe despite the Himalayan cold, he taught through spontaneous songs of realization. His life story serves as the ultimate proof of the potential for total transformation.
