The Life of Marpa the Translator recounts the eleventh-century Tibetan master’s journey to India three times, seeking dharma from Nāropa, Maitrīpa, and other siddhas. He endured great hardships, received tantric teachings, and returned to Tibet to translate scriptures and teach. Marpa married Dagmema, raised a family, and trained disciples including Milarepa, Ngoktön, and Metön. His son Tarma Dode died young but transferred his consciousness to a brahmin boy in India. Marpa displayed miracles, established the Kagyü lineage, and dissolved into dharmadhātu at eighty-eight amid rainbows and flowers.
